HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) documents are usually derived from another program, such as MS-Word, which spawned the HTML that is stored on the website server. Generally, the document is written in MS-Word (or another program) and converted to HTML either externally or automatically. On this website we do the conversion from MS-Word done automatically by the website at the time of uploading to the server. HTML is not a word processing program and therefore the converting will not necessarily keep all of the features in the original MS-Word document. HTML is rendered on your computer screen by your Internet browsing software. The most commonly used browser is Internet Explorer (IE). IE can read the HTML document and display it on your computer. To do this we construct a new window and then insert the HTML document into it.
The HTML document may have workable links, and tables of contents which operate to display portions of the document without you having to search through the document by scrolling.
If you click on the “HTML Version” the website will transfer an HTML file to your browser and it will display without calling a word processing program. Once the browser has finished displaying the document you may use the links and the tables of contents and tables of figures to scroll through the documents using the browser’s Link Clicking Feature and returning to the table of contents by clicking the “Back” button.
After the browser displays the document, if you wish to print, simply use the IE browser menu “File -> Print function. You can save the HTML file for later viewing, however, the photos and diagrams may not be visible.
The HTML Document after opening can be saved and will be able to be opened with MS-Word as an HTML file, but all editing functions will not be usable. However, the shortcuts, links, and Table of Contents shortcut link features built into the HTML document will be available.
